I’m running for State Treasurer because I have the experience and values necessary to be entrusted with Utahns’ tax dollars and Utah’s credit rating and investments. This is a fascinating time of uncertainty, that is coupled with change and growth. As Treasurer I will maintain the state’s financial strength and public accountability.
I’ve been the CEO of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA) since July 2013. I’ve always been involved with the business environment and the profession. I was a member of the Federal Funds Commission for the state of Utah under Gov. Gary Herbert and am Co-Chair with David Damschen for the Utah Financial Empowerment Coalition.
I’m also a member of the Women’s Summit under the Department of Corrections, an organization that prepares women to transition into society after serving time in the prison system, board member for the Utah Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy, and a board member of the YWCA. I am also past president of the UACPA (Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants) and AWSCPA (American Women’s Society of Certified Public Accountants).
Prior to coming to the UACPA I had a CPA practice that specialized in small businesses especially in the areas of construction, job costing and estimating for the construction industry for 25 years. Along with providing general accounting services for clients, we taught our clients what their financial situation meant on paper, how to read their financial statements and how they relate to their current business and economic environment. Clients also learned how the financing industry interprets financial statements and data and what they as small business owners could do to improve margins, efficiencies, minimize tax liabilities and continue growth.
I enjoy playing with my husband Steve, our two children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. As a family we enjoy snowmobiling, hiking, boating and music.

My core values (integrity, competency, objectivity) are the common denominators for how I plan to focus my role as State Treasurer.
The State Treasurer is responsible for the people’s money and investments, and that takes the highest levels of integrity. Integrity means being willing to have the tough conversations and to hold the highest standards, because those actions directly impact our state’s AAA credit rating.
Competency is more than just a resume. It is understanding the root of the issue and being able to effectively communicate in easily digestible terms. My 30+ years helping businesses and business owners grow and thrive will help us maintain our state’s powerful AAA rating.
Objectivity means the ability and the willingness to look at things from all angles. As Treasurer, I will also be entrusted to review financial instruments as means of investment of Utah’s taxpayer monies. Information must be reviewed with lack of favoritism from one issue to another and without bias.
